Sixth hill

The rainiest day yet, so I went out in the early evening when it had cleared, up Mount Victoria. I walk up it often, but not usually quite to the top. This is a view looking back at Kilbirnie, the low strip of land between Lyall Bay on the far side and Evans Bay on the near side, with all the hills I've climbed so far inside the frame.

My flatmate F is getting better, their covid tests fainter and their cough receding. The rest of us, touch wood, still haven't caught it.

Yes! Miramar Peninsula on the left of the photo used to be an island, the isthmus was brought up by an earthquake in the 1400s. Several areas of Wellington have risen or been reclaimed like this - the Basin Reserve, a centre-city sports ground, is named that because until 1855 it was a lagoon.
